SANTORINI SNAPSHOTS

We travelled to Santorini for my birthday this year and spent a few days there. It was my first time on the island and on my bucket list for a veryyyy long time!!! It’s funny, because we always wanted to visit but somehow ended up discovering other Greek islands instead, which were definitely all worth a visit! I assume there is just no Greek island that is not wonderful.

So, you can imagine what an amazing birthday gift it was to finally visit my dream island, and Santorini really exceeded all expectations!

I’m not a travel expert and had heard from others that Oia is very crowded, but it was a really nice surprise that it actually wasn’t that bad. My hubby and I were there in early June and I don’t know if it was the start of the season or still the effects of the pandemic but it seemed to be the right time :)

Anyways, we did not do that much, mainly just relaxed at the pool with that amazing Caldera view at our beautiful hotel Mystique, with the rest of the time used to explore the island in a Mini Cooper or to walk the many steps in Oia or Fira – you clearly need no gym during your stay in Santorini! But don’t forget your sneakers or flats ;)

One thing of course: We should NEVER accept to ride a poor, lovely donkey please, that is pure animal cruelty! I hope that business gets prohibited at some point…

We also had delicious food, as always in Greece. With a slight difference here: we usually love to go to taverns and eat Greek salad every day (and several other vegetarian dishes!!) when we visit the Greek islands, but this time we mainly went fine dining, and tried quite a few vegetarian tasting menus. Two of my fave places (and sunset views!!!) were the Lure at the Mystique and The Athenian House; especially the latter was spectacular. For another amazing sunset view and boho-chic vibes I can also highly recommend Pacman. Everything pricey but clearly there is a reason for that.

In summary: Soooo lovely people, astonishing views, superb food, great weather - my paradise! And my style highlight? The distinctive architecture, especially the cave houses, just blew me away.

I really hope I visit this wonderful volcano island again, albeit I have a long list of places I would like to go :)

Hope you spend your summer there, or somewhere else nice! Let me know!

Alex xx
