Dear AK Friends,
After a long period of reflection I have arrived at the difficult decision to take a sabbatical from the work at Alexandra Kaiser.
This year has been extremely challenging for all of us, also for me, and full of changes in several dimensions. As I have always said, this brand is all about passion, authenticity and transparency; as such, for creativity and energy you need full joy at what you’re doing – and I have to say that is not how I feel with regard to AK these days. That is the reason for AK and me taking a break.
I don’t know where this sabbatical will lead AK or me but these times have once more taught me how important it is to listen to your inner self and to be confident to act accordingly. It is time for a change now.
The last 5 years have been the best in my life and I’m so grateful for all the lovely supporters in this journey! There have been so many unforgettable moments I could only have dreamt of, and I’m endlessly thankful for you all making them possible… Maybe we meet here again in the future! I will definitely keep you posted.
In the meantime: Please stay safe everyone and again, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!
I was born in Cologne, Germany, and educated in Frankfurt and Hamburg. Driven by the passion for timelessly artistic designs combined with my concerns regarding the increasingly negative environmental and societal impact of fashion, I decided to launch my own fashion label in London in 2016.
My dream is to create unique garments with long lasting value to their owner while respecting people and planet in the entire process. Every piece is designed to be both timeless and truly special, and offers the wearer ample scope for expressing personal style, as well as stepping out of the loop of fast fashion by owning a piece which embodies true quality and longevity. Thanks to my background in dressmaking and patternmaking, high craftsmanship and superior quality are at the heart of my work.
I keep things small and my designs are manufactured in London. Now, I have decided to take the next step in my journey, and after my recently launched AK007 – Capsule Collection, I will not be launching collections every six months anymore, but freely design and share specific, unique pieces on a regular basis, to better share my dynamic, spontaneous and artistic approach to design and fashion.
By doing this, I want to further fight for sustainability and slow fashion, following a pre-order and make-to-order sales model. As part of this effort, I will continue to look for organic, sustainable fabrics, apply unused materials procured for prior collections (known as deadstock) where possible, and re-launch my (and your!) favourite pieces from previous collections from time to time, re-imagined in new styles!
As a vegetarian, my collections are produced without the use of animal skins and wool is only sourced from controlled biological animal husbandry. I work towards further integration of sustainable fabrics into my designs. My fabrics are mainly purchased from Belgian and German mills.
