I was born in Cologne, Germany, and educated in Frankfurt and Hamburg. Driven by the passion for timelessly artistic designs combined with my concerns regarding the increasingly negative environmental and societal impact of fashion, I decided to launch my own fashion label in London in 2016.
My dream is to create unique garments with long lasting value to their owner while respecting people and planet in the process. Every piece is designed to be both timeless and truly special and offers the wearer ample scope for expressing personal style, as well as stepping out of the loop of fast fashion by owning a piece which embodies true quality and longevity. Thanks to my background in dressmaking and patternmaking, high craftsmanship and superior quality are at the heart of my work.
I keep things small and my designs are manufactured in London in small runs of each collection (max. two collections a year) to minimise waste and overproduction, and unused fabrics procured for prior collections (known as deadstock) are being re-used to avoid landfill.
As a vegetarian, my collections are produced without the use of leather, fur or silk for animal welfare reasons and wool is only sourced from controlled biological animal husbandry. I work towards further integration of sustainable fabrics into my designs. My fabrics are mainly purchased from French and German mills.
For my most recent collection AK006 – Wanderlust, the share of styles made from polyester has been reduced by 80%, with a 100% target for the next collection.
“Now more than ever we share an enormous responsibility to take note of the way fashion impacts our environment and society. I want to produce something that is a fashionable piece of art yet sustainable and inspire others around me to embrace such a positive trend.”
